Pro Series Questions & Answers with Matt Smith Founder Online Income Teacher
1- How did you get started on the Internet? – “If I’m honest, I kind of fell into blogging online really. I originally wanted to go into film & TV, working behind the scenes in the special effects industry and studied at University for such a career. Unfortunately, I managed to time it perfectly that I graduated at the height of the economic meltdown, making it near on impossible to get my foot in the door in that industry. That was when I started to look at working online. I did some basic web design while at University, which I found pretty interesting and I always loved writing. Seemed like a good fit for me, though at the time I didn’t think it would lead to where I am now. A happy accident indeed!” 2- Who is your greatest inspiration in life? -”My biggest inspiration in life is probably by Brother (though I’d never admit that to him). He went over to Japan about 12 years ago and built a pretty good life for himself – started his own business and got married. He inspired me to not follow convention and learn to do your own thing. I think that really helped when I started my own online business, as nobody I knew was doing anything like that. All my friends were off getting regular jobs that they hated and moaning about it. I decided that I wanted to do something different, which led to what I do now. So yeah, it would have to be my Brother.”
3- Your Favorite way to make income online and why? - “Well my “favourite” way to make money online would be affiliate marketing. I really love the fact that you can set up affiliate links on a site that can earn you money and just leave them to do their thing. Set them up and move onto something else, preferably adding other affiliate links. Of course, it’s not quite as easy as that as you need to work on driving traffic to a site in order for them to really work, but I really like the process. It’s certainly not my biggest earner, but it is passive income non the less.”4- If starting out today would you do anything different? – “If I was to start again today from scratch, I think I would trust myself more. When I first started out, I wasted so much time deliberating over certain decisions that I was unsure of, that I could have built my site up a lot faster than I have done. It’s easy to do, especially when you are still learning about all the different aspects of running a website, but I should have listened to my instincts a bit more. ” “I think I would also try to stop fussing over all the little details and concentrate more on the things that really matter. I spent far to much time obsessing over what my site looked like when I first started, when I could have used that time to produce more content. Web design is important, but at the end of the day it’s your content that brings people to your site. That should be the primary focus for any new blogger. ” 5- Where do you see the Internet heading in relation to blogging/making money online? – “Good question, though that’s a pretty hard one to answer. My personal view is that more emphasis is going to be put on social engagement and social media, so blogs need to make sure that they have an active presence on all the major networks (Twitter, Facebook, Google+, etc.). We have also seen that increasing numbers are surfing the web on mobile devices, so sites need to be “mobile friendly”, otherwise they are missing out of lots of potential traffic/sales.” “Other than that, it’s hard to tell. Technology changes SO quickly these days, I don’t think many people know what’s around the corner. I mean, Google Glass could be the next big thing. That could be like the new mobile phone, where everyone will own a pair in a couple of years. That could have a huge impact on the way we use the internet. It’s an exciting time at the moment, but bloggers need to keep on top of what’s around the corner – even if we don’t quite know what it is yet!” [maxbutton id="14"]
